Lagos Fashion Week returns from 28 October to 1 November 2026, bringing designers, buyers, press and style-watchers from across Africa and the diaspora. Between the shows, Lagos is one of the best cities in the world to explore textiles, craft and design. Here is what to do around the runway.
Nigerian textiles to know
- Adire: Yoruba indigo resist-dyed cloth, from traditional patterns to bold contemporary designs.
- Aso-oke: hand-woven strip cloth worn for weddings and celebrations.
- Ankara: the colourful wax prints you will see everywhere, cut into modern tailoring.
Where to see and buy
Nike Art Gallery
Nike Art Gallery was founded by the artist Chief Nike Okundaye, famous for her work in adire. It is the best single place in Lagos to see textile art alongside painting and sculpture, and to buy pieces to take home.
Lekki arts and crafts market
Browse stalls of carvings, beads, fabric and leatherwork. Bargain politely and pay in cash.
Balogun Market
This is the city's great fabric market on Lagos Island: loud, crowded and endlessly colourful. Go with someone who knows it, keep valuables close, and go early.
Abeokuta day trip
Abeokuta in Ogun State is a traditional centre of adire dyeing. A day trip combines the dye-works with a climb up Olumo Rock.
Culture between shows
Fashion in Lagos is culture. Spend a morning at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, where dress, ceremony and identity come together. Then walk through Freedom Park, where you will often find exhibitions and performances.
